What "Potty Mouth" reveals...

Today it's everywhere... On the street, on TV, in music, in what we read, and even in common conversation!   Profane language, cussing and cursing!

People will tell you it's normal, it's modern, they'll tell you it's how they express themselves, and some people will even tell you they can't communicate without an occasional case of "sewer mouth".

Comedians can't be funny without "toilet mouth", music can't be cool without "fecal language", and even art can't be artistic without "pornographic smuttiness".   And it's no longer the biker, truck driver or ex-con sitting in prison.

Common folk - modern times!   Far from positive progression in the culture but simply accepted.   So much so, that if one has a problem with it, THEY are the problem not the one with "excrement speech".

Well, it's the way of the world.   However, when it's also the way of those who profess themselves "Christian", they are misrepresenting God, blaspheming His Holy name, and doing so in His presence.  Perhaps the world doesn't care about the state of their heart before a holy God but "Christians" should.

It's a serious thing if they see no problem with it because it demonstrates severe ignorance of God's Word and warnings.  It demonstrates no fear of God and evidence of false conversion or in the least, lack of Spiritual discernment/maturity.   People who continue to profess to be Christian and continue to use profane language might be demonstrating evidence of a lack of regeneration.

Here is what God's Word has to say about it:

"O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment."

- Matthew 12:34-36

"But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him." -  Colosians 3:8-10

Go through the Psalms and you'll learn that our many ways of expressing anything as humans; whether we speak, sing or play music, our expressions are created by God to give praise to Him.  Our ability to express was not given to us to exhalt evil but to praise, speak His Truth, and glorify God.

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." - Psalm 19:14

All bad habits are able to be broken especially when we are endowed by the gifts of God's holy Spirit who comes to live and dwell within us.   And so we can never exhalt Him who is perfectly holy and pure with profanity.  God forbid.

"Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called," - Ephesians 4:1

"Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."
   - Ephesians 4:29

And it continues to say:

"Do not grieve the Holy Spirit". - Ephesians 4:30
